Making a difference for equine welfare
A significant donation from The Bill Torrance Charitable Trust has given the Southern racing community a welcome boost for equine welfare.
The gift to NZ Horse Ambulance Trust will help promote care, passion, and dignity for horses in the Murihiku—Southland area.
Bill Torrance left a legacy that positively impacts the community by supporting and empowering worthwhile causes like the dedicated national horse ambulance service that attends every race meeting and trial in New Zealand.
While stakeholders and spectators participate in the sport of racing and equestrian events, it also provides a social destination and forms part of a vibrant community's social fabric.
Trustees Joe and Lu Bagrie are horse-lovers and avid harness racing enthusiasts. The couple race several horses with Ryal Bush trainer Brett Gray, with Flashpoint recently earning black type for second in the Group 2 Southern Supremacy Stakes Final on Diamonds Day.
By honouring his wishes, the trustees reflect Bill Torrance's enduring commitment to sporting causes, continuing his legacy to benefit the community he was so passionate about.
Thank you to Joe and Lu for caring about the welfare and well-being of NZ's horses.
